In the heart of the Laval district in Antibes, we met Régina, founder of Yam Yoga. In a peaceful, light-filled atmosphere, she told us about her background, her philosophy, and the life of her yoga school, which welcomes students from all walks of life every week.
The Yam Yoga adventure began in 2016, but Régina’s passion for yoga goes back much further. “I’ve been practising for more than 17 years,” she explains. Today, several practices have their place in her school: gentle hatha yoga, meditative yin yoga, ashtanga, more dynamic yinyasa, not to mention breathwork, pranayama and meditation.
But why the name Yam Yoga? Régina smiles: “Yam is a chakra. We have seven chakras forming a line of energy, and Yam is the heart chakra. That’s why we chose this name.” A fitting symbol, as this place is designed as a space where people come to practise with openness and kindness.
Yoga became part of Régina’s life through her many journeys. “I travelled for almost 30 years in India, always searching for something. Yoga came to me and I never left it. My life changed from that moment.” That transformation became a mission: to pass on a philosophy of life and share its benefits. “Yoga is a philosophy of life and passing it on is a gift.”
Always on the move, Yam Yoga keeps offering new experiences. Régina confides: “We’re planning a yoga retreat in Morocco, a few days or a week with classes in the morning and evening and cultural visits. In June, we also host our main Indian teacher for a six-day intensive course. And here in Antibes, we continue with workshops: yoga, meditation, sound baths, kirtan… There’s always plenty going on.”
Her journey reflects this inner path. After working in import–export of handicrafts, it was through discovering yoga that she found her way. “There was a before-yoga and an after-yoga. Today, it’s my pillar, my reason for living, my passion.”
